They are offered here as suggestions. Any of them can be modified to meet your tastes. Each dish represents a category.

There are many possibilities within each category and we would be happy to discuss them with you.

You may also suggest something that is not here; maybe something you've run across in your travels or something you've had in a local restaurant.

We're curious and like new things.

We use organic and locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. We'll prepare single dishes or full menus for as few as two or as many as you are entertaining.

Comfort Food

Comfort food, like you used to get at home, you can make yourself or ask your mother to make it. At Sunnyside Gourmet, we'll take comfort food and give it a gourmet twist so that it is familiar yet exotic. We'll also introduce you to comfort food from other regions of the world.

PAC & CHEESE

This is a very special take on macaroni and cheese. It features pacherri rigati, a ribbed tube pasta with peas, mint, arugula and three types of cheese including our home made ricotta.

HEART of PALM QUICHE

This could be called Costa Rican comfort food. Great for brunch or lunch.

This is a special variation on basic hummus. Served with homemade coriander seed flatbread turns the ordinary into something exotic.

Another traditional Greek dish, this one featuring thick yogurt and cucumber. The secret is handling the spices just right. We can make yours plain or with mint or dill.

Main Dishes

Paellas

Paella is the ultimate social food. If you want to gather your friends around a colorful, tasty communal meal on a cold winter day or liven up a warm weather yard party, a paella is the perfect food. The secret to an authentic, tasty paella is the layer at the bottom of caramelized tomato and onion. Unfortunately, restaurants can't take the time to prepare a paella so that this layer, called sofrito occurs. What they come up with is more like a risotto or gumbo. At Sunnyside Gourmet, we make our paellas by hand and slowly. Some of the ingredients are smoked and the end product is the best paella you'll get outside of a home in Valencia. Our favorite is a seafood paella, but we're also happy to make a traditional paella with chicken and chorizo (Spanish sausage) or a vegetarian paella. Paellas can be made for as few as two or as many as you want to impress.

Aioli Sauce (made with lots of garlic and high quality olive oil): $15 per pint.

Swordfish Tagine

Tagines are the signature dish of Morocco. The word refers to both the conical clay pot and the food that is cooked in the pot. The shape of the tagine creates a large steam pocket that melds the flavors that are dominated by preserved lemons (we make our own), cinnamon and saffron. Because some of the ingredients are marinated, tagines often take days to prepare. This is our favorite and features succulent swordfish, onions, potatoes and tomatoes, a one-dish meal. Traditional tagines can be made with lamb, seafood or vegetables. We make tagines in various sizes from individual to service for 10.

Mchuzi wa Samaki wa Nazi (Fish Curry in Coconut Milk)

A Swahili Coast classic. You choose tilapia, wild red snapper or wild salmon.
Price: $9.99 per serving



Caramelized Garlic Tart

There are unlimited possibilities for tarts. This is one of the most delicious and uses caramelized garlic and soft and hard goat cheeses.

A traditional Greek village food. The recipe was provided by the mother of a friend of ours in Athens.

Kukupaka (Chicken with Coconut Milk)

This Swahili Coast specialty starts with smoke grilled chicken that is then simmered in Zanzibar spices and coconut milk. Goes well with nan, chapatis or brown or white rice.

Arroz con Pollo (Chicken w Rice)

We upgrade this Latin American classic by smoke grilling the chicken. We'll make it as mild or spicy as you like.

A great dip, livened with the sparkle of pomegranates. The eggplant is smoked for added favor. Seasonal vegetables may be added. A delicious accompaniment for fish or lamb.

We like to use celery root as a healthy alternative starch. Try our mashed celery root with a bit of white beans, garlic and olive oil and you'll never want mashed pototoes again.
